Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, recently made a visit to Pir Guddu and Kot Diji in the Khairpur district, where he announced the establishment of a COMSATS University campus. During his visit, the Prime Minister also addressed flood victims in the region, promising to fund the construction of both the campus and houses for those affected by the floods.
PM Sharif stated that approximately Rs. 5 billion will be allocated towards the construction of homes for flood victims and assured those in attendance that the government will make every effort to provide relief to those impacted by the floods.
In addition to the construction of the campus and houses, the Prime Minister also announced plans to hold a Donors’ Conference in Geneva next month. At the conference, the government will present the case for those affected by the floods, including details on the losses sustained, the devastation caused by the floods, and the impacts of climate change. The Prime Minister was accompanied on this visit by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and other distinguished guests.
Before the Prime Minister’s address, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, briefed him on the rehabilitation and relief efforts currently underway in the region. The establishment of the COMSATS University campus and the government’s commitment to providing assistance to those affected by the floods are both welcome steps towards helping to rebuild and support the community in Khairpur.
